CAHSS Faculty Member Awarded Choreography Fellowship
Augusto Soledade, M.F.A., faculty in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS), was one of four choreographers selected to receive a $10,000 fellowship through the 2016- 17 Dance Miami Choreographer’s Program.
Soledade was selected by an illustrious panel or reviewers, which included: Hope Boykin, choreographer for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in NYC; Brian Enos, artistic director of Big Muddy Dance Company in St. Louis, MO; and Dana Moore, Bob Fosse Choreographer and faculty member of Marymount Manhattan College Department of Dance, NY. Selection by the panel was based on the caliber of work as evidenced by the submitted samples.
Soledade has been a Guggenheim Fellow and the recipient of numerous awards including being a past multiple recipient of the Dance Miami Choreographer’s Program .He has twice been the recipient of the Individual Artist Fellowship from the State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs. His academic and artistic work concentrates around Afro-Fusion and African Diasporic Dance. He is the Founder Artistic Director and resident choreographer for Augusto Soledade Brazzdance in Miami. Soledade is an associate professor in the Department of Performing and Visual Arts.
