Atlantic Crisis and Conflict Simulation

Graduate students and faculty from NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) recently participated in a crisis and conflict simulation sponsored by the City of Fellsmere, Florida, the U.S. Army, Company A/436th Civilian Affairs Battalion, Operation Hope of Greater Florida, Inc. and the American Red Cross of South Florida. The exercise provided students an experiential learning opportunity where they utilized negotiation, mediation, team-building, cross-cultural and other skills learned in their degree programs, in a variety of crisis and conflict contexts.

Participants included Department of Conflict Resolution Studies assistant professor Mary Hope Schwoebel, Ph.D., and doctoral students Hussain Alqahtani, Scherazade Sabrina Chikhi, and Armen Gregorian. Gregorian is also an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRS) delegate and an administrator at NSU’s West Palm Beach campus. Schwoebel and Gregorian served as team leaders.
