CAHSS Faculty and Students Author Book Chapters on Equine Assisted Therapy
Shelley Green, Ph.D., faculty in the Department of Family Therapy in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS), has authored a chapter and co-authored two other chapters in the book, Equine-Assisted Therapy Activities for Counselors: Harnessing Solutions to Common Problems, edited by Kay Sudekum Trotter, Ph.D., and Jennifer N. Baggerly, Ph.D.
Green authored a chapter entitled, “Partnering with Horses to Train Mental Health Professionals.” She co-authored two other chapters including: “Equine Assisted Therapy with Couples and Families in Crisis,” with Michael Rolleston and Monica Schroeder; and “Triggering Transformations: An Equine Assisted Approach to the Treatment of Substance Abuse,” with Michael Rolleston, Cynthia Penalva, and Valerie Judd. Rolleston, Schroeder, and Penalva are doctoral students in DFT and Judd is the Executive Director of Stable Place.
Green received the 2016-17 President’s Distinguished Professor Award of Excellence. Several years ago, she initiated a course, Equine Assisted Family Therapy, which was the first of its kind to be housed in a nationally accredited family therapy program. Subsequently she initiated a second equine assisted therapy course. Green has presented at national and international conferences on equine assisted therapy as well as other family therapy topics.
