CAHSS Faculty and Student Honored at 2017 Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Conference

Christine Beliard, Ph.D., and Debbie Manigat, M.S.

Christine Beliard, Ph.D., faculty and Director of the Doctoral Programs in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) and Debbie Manigat, M.S., doctoral student in DFT in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) were honored at the 2017 Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Conference in Orlando. The conference, held at NSU’s Orlando campus on November 3-4, 2017 featured the theme: “Treating the Marginalized and Oppressed: Dealing with Distress in Today’s Climate.”

Beliard received the 2017 Andres Nazario Diversity Award for her outstanding leadership and commitment to cultural diversity and Inclusion. She is committed to social justice and the provision of relevant mental health services to minority families through best practices in training and service delivery. Beliard is an alumna of the SAMHSA/AAMFT Minority Fellowship Program, has served as a mentor for the program, and was appointed to the program’s advisory committee.

Manigat received the 2017 Student of the Year Award. She is the DFT Graduate SGA representative. Prior to entering DFT’s doctoral program, Manigat received her M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy/Counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University and her B.A. in Communications from Howard University.
