CAHSS Faculty and Alum Co-Author Book- Conflict and Sustainability in a Changing Environment
Gwendolyn Smith, Ph.D., graduate of the doctoral program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCRS) and Elena Bastidas, Ph.D., associate professor, College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS), co-authored a book titled, Conflict and Sustainability in a Changing Environment: Through the Eyes of Communities, published by Anthem Press.
The book presents a case study of the Trio indigenous peoples of Suriname and provides an inside view of a community on the path toward sustainable development while facing climate change.
Bastidas is the faculty advisor to the CAHSS Graduate Student Government Association. Since 2010 she has taught global courses bringing graduate students to Ecuador and Suriname. Smith is the Executive Director of the NGO Perspectives of Freedom Foundation. In addition to her doctoral degree, she has an M.Sc. in Biotechnology from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
