CAHSS Faculty and Alum Co-author Book Chapter, “‘Fat’ as Political Disobedience: Black Women Blogging the Resistance”

Andrea Shaw Nevins, Ph.D.

Andrea Shaw Nevins, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of History and Political Science in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS), has co-authored a book chapter with CAHSS alum, Jazmyn Brown, B.A. The chapter, entitled, “‘Fat’ as Political Disobedience: Black Women Blogging the Resistance,” appears in the book, Embodiment and Eating Disorders: Theory, Research, Prevention and Treatment, edited by Hillary L. McBride, Ph.D., and Janelle L. Kwee, Ph.D. It was published by Routledge.

Nevins indicated that, “My co-writer is Jazmyn Brown, an English major (class of 2017) whom I taught in my Caribbean literature course. The chapter Jazmyn and I developed…contemplates the ways in which black women are using social media as a platform for resisting Western beauty imperatives.  It was a wonderful experience working with Jazmyn!”
