CAHSS Alum Works with St. Andrew’s Refugee Services in Egypt

Careen Hutchinson, Ph.D.Careen Hutchinson, Ph.D., graduate of the doctoral program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is currently in Cairo, Egypt working with St. Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS). StARS has served refugees since 1979 and they strive to enhance the quality of life for refugees in Egypt through community programs.

Hutchinson indicated that, “I am fortunate to work directly with refugees, hearing their stories and preparing the first draft of their petition for the legal department’s review and approval for representation. I notice that the lens through which I am privy to view the entire process is vastly different from my co-workers.  They are often amazed at the multi-focus perspective I present when considering each case.  It has been my pleasure to share the human factor, theoretical framework, policy orientation and even a bit of psychological perspectives with them. “

In addition to her doctoral degree, Hutchinson earned her M.A. in Cross-disciplinary Studies (MACS) from the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS) in CAHSS, and her bachelor’s degree is in Psychology from NSU.
