Four Business School Professors Present at IMA Conference

Albert Williams, Ph.D.

On Sept. 28 and 29, four professors from the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship presented at the Florida Council of the Institute of Management Accountants’ (IMA) fall conference in Kissimmee, Florida. The representatives from the School of Business were: Allen Yessman, president of the IMA’s Florida Council, Joel Auerbach, Robert Preziosi, D.P.A., and Albert Williams, Ph.D.

Yessman, an adjunct professor of accounting who is certified in management accounting (CMA), public accounting and business management, gave a presentation on CMA ethics titled “The Psychology of a Fraudster.” The presentation walked attendees through the thought processes that occur when someone commits occupational fraud in their company.

Williams, assistant professor of finance and economics, presented on the status of the local, national and global economy. He provided key statistics for each area and led a lively discussion on the present status and future expectations of our economy, adding that the world economy is uncertain. On this basis, Williams asserted that there is a need for governments and private sector institutions to have bigger financial buffers.

Joel Auerbach, adjunct professor of economics, continued from where Williams concluded and discussed the potential relationship between the present economic situation and the potential outcome of the presidential election in November. His topic was “Harry Potter’s Economics of the 2012 American Election: Thoughts and wizardly discussions on financial markets, proposed politics and political promises for economic bliss!” Predicting the winner of a close presidential election needs wizardry – a magic wand!

Robert Preziosi, professor of management, gave an innovative presentation titled “Ten New Rhythms from a Revisionist Manager.” Preziosi has presented to IMA before and was very well received.
