Black History Month continues at NSU with a variety of activities including film screenings, dynamic speakers, educational workshops and events for all ages.

Thursday, February 4 – March 4 –“ASCENT: Black Women’s Expressions,” African Presence 2015, 13^th Annual Art Exhibition

This year’s exhibition is “ASCENT: Black Women’s Expressions,” which features the work of women of African descent from the local, national and international art scene. Opening Reception will be held in the Don Taft University Center. The exhibition, which will run through March 4, will be unveiled at 8:00 pm in the Alvin Sherman Library, Adolfo & Marisela Cotilla Gallery. Thursday, March 3 – “Let’s Speak Truth,” 3^rd Annual Poetry & Spoken Word Night, 6-8 pm

Audre Lorde wrote, “Poetry is not only dream and vision; it is the skeleton architecture of our lives…” Poetry is an intimate affair and the best way to experience it is to see it performed in person. Listen to local spoken word artists and poets during this celebration of creativity. Location: Alvin Sherman Library, Adolfo & Marisela Cotilla Gallery. Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History that uses the power of documentary films to encourage community discussion about America’s civil rights history.
