Baseball player – Michael Hernandez – Named SSC Player of the Week
Michael Hernandez (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) has been named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, after going 5-for-12 in a sweep of the No. 3 Tampa Spartans, including two walk-off performances.
On Friday night, Hernandez went 2-for-5 with a triple and one RBI. The RBI came on a single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth inning, breaking the 6-6 tie and ending the game in a Sharks victory. Hernandez was just getting started, as he went 2-for-4 in game two of the series, driving in three of the 10 NSU runs. Hernandez put the icing on the cake in the series finale, hitting a walk-off home run over the left centerfield fence, elevating the Sharks over the Spartans for the third time of the weekend to complete the sweep.
Hernandez joins his teammates Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.) and Roberto Baroniel (Sr., Miami, Fla.) as the third player to receive the weekly honor from the SSC. Garcia has been named Player of the Week twice.
Hernandez and the Sharks will be back in action Tuesday night, taking on the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish in the Battle of the Fish. First pitch against the Sailfish is set for 6 p.m at the NSU Baseball Complex. Be sure to tune in to the game, following the links on the schedule page.
