Baseball player Justin Garcia Named Semifinalist for Tino Martinez Award
Nova Southeastern University junior Justin Garcia (Hialeah, Fla.) is one of the 30 semifinalists for the 2015 D2 Baseball News Tino Martinez Award. The award has been given to the top player in NCAA Division II baseball for five years running.
Garcia has been a major part of the top ranked Sharks’ offensive attack, leading the team home runs (16), RBI (52), total bases (126), slugging percentage (.803) and on-base percentage (.474). Garcia has started all 43 of NSU’s games in 2015, spending most of his time in left field and in the designated hit slot.
Gacia is the fourth Sharks baseball player to be named a semifinalist, joining Andrew Durden (2011), Carlos Asuaje (2012) and Areo Regoli (2012).
The winner of the 2015 Tino Martinez Award will be named Monday, June 1st following the Division II Championships which will held in Cary, N.C. The finalists will be revealed prior to the beginning of the DII Championships. The list of all of the semifinalists can be found here.
