Nova Southeastern University adds its fifth professional signing of 2015, as Roberto Baroniel (Sr., Miami, Fla.) has signed a contract to play for the Normal Cornbelters of the Frontier League.

Baroniel had this to say after his signing:

“This moment means a lot to me,” said Baroniel. “Personally it’s always been a goal of mine to play baseball at a professional level and today is the day it becomes a reality. I have had several coaches along the way who have helped me get to where I am today. I am also grateful for those individuals who have stuck with me throughout this process. Between my NSU coaching staff and my high school coaching staff, I’m lucky to have had great mentors along the way.”

Baroniel was the NSU Friday night starter for the past two years, putting together an 11-8 record over the past two years. Known to his teammates as “Bubba,” the right hander finished second on the staff this year with 69 strikeouts. His best game came against the Florida Southern Mocs when he threw a complete game with a career high 10 strikeouts, earning himself the Sunshine State Conference and South Region Pitcher of the Week awards.

While Baroniel had a great deal of success on the field, his accomplishments off of the field are going to be remembered at NSU for a long time. Baroniel served as the SAAC President for NSU, the SSC and the entire country, representing all of the NCAA Division II student-athletes.
