Asuaje Named Preseason Division II Player of the Year by Baseball America
NSU junior second baseman Carlos Asuaje has been named the preseason Division II Player of the Year by Baseball America, as released on their website.
Asuaje (Jr., Weston, Fla.) received a series of postseason awards following the 2012 campaign, including Sunshine State Conference Co-Player of the Year. He played in, and started all, 50 games a year ago, batting .389 with five home runs and 29 RBI. In addition to his batting average, he also led the team in on-base percentage (.480), runs scored (49) and doubles (23), while only committing four errors at 2B for a .984 fielding percentage. His defensive prowess led him to being awarded a Gold Glove by ABCA/Rawlings.
“Carlos has embodied on and off the field what every coach wants,” said head baseball coach Greg Brown. “He is an extremely competitive person with the kind of skill and aptitude that put him in a different class. This is a great honor bestowed on him and it is a testament to his work ethic and character.” Complete Release
