Asuaje Named Co-SSC Player of the Year

Carlos Asuaje

Nova Southeastern second baseman Carlos Asuaje (So., Weston, FL) has been named Co-Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, May 16. He also received All-SSC First-Team honors alongside Areo Regoli (Sr., Homestead, FL) and Zachary Westcott (So., Weston, FL).

Asuaje becomes the second NSU baseball player to take home the Player of the Year honor and the first since Bryan Cook won the award in 2008. Asuaje has excelled in the leadoff role for NSU, hitting .414 during the season. He routinely puts himself in scoring position, with 23 doubles on the year. He is one double away from tying the single-season doubles record at NSU, set by Guillermo Munoz in 1991.

Asuaje enters the postseason with an even .500 on base percentage. He also has 28 RBI and five home runs on the season. He is the first baseball player in SSC history to win Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. Asuaje earns this year’s honor alongside Lynn’s Anthony Boza.
