Assistant Dean of Optometry Appointed Dean at KYCO
The University of Pikeville has named Michael Bacigalupi, O.D., M.S., FAAO, assistant dean for student affairs and admissions for the NSU College of Optometry (NSUCO), dean of Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO). Bacigalupi has been with NSUCO since 2005 and during his time has been named Executive of the Year at the Student Lifetime Achievement Awards, affectionately known as the STUEYs, and Administrator of the Year by the students of the college.
David S. Loshin, O.D., Ph.D., FAAO, dean of optometry, thanks Bacigalupi for his outstanding efforts in enhancing student affairs and admissions for the college. “He has brought innovation to recruitment with his promotion of social media and use of iPads for candidates coming to visit the college,” said Loshin.
Bacigalupi earned an Associate of Arts degree in Chemistry from Schreiner University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Optometry from the University of Houston. In 1993, he graduated magna cum laude from the University of Houston College of Optometry with a Doctor of Optometry degree. He earned a Master of Science degree in Business Management with emphasis in Leadership at the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship at NSU and completed the Institute for Management and Leadership in Higher Education program at Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
Prior to joining the faculty of NSU, Bacigalupi was in private optometric practice for 12 years. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and clinical examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. He serves on the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry Student Affairs Committee, Culture Task Force and Committee for Applicant Development, and has fulfilled several roles in the American Optometric Association.
Bacigalupi will assume his role in Kentucky in July. We wish him the best of luck as dean of KYCO!
