Award Winners for Say What? Third Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition Announced
Ten student artists have been recognized for their award-winning submissions to the Say What? Third Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition. The complete showcase of works is on display through Apr. 27, in Gallery 217 of the Performing and Visual Arts Wing of the Don Taft University Center. The exhibit is hosted by the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Performing and Visual Arts.
This year’s winners represent a mix of painting, mixed media, printmaking, digital art, sculpture, photography, graphic design, and book art. Mindy Shrago, co-founder and executive director of Young At Art Children’s Museum in Davie, served as juror for this year’s exhibition.
Student Reshma Ramrattan, who received the Dean’s Choice Award for her digital painting “Blues,” and Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., dean of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, at the opening reception for Say What? Third Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition at NSU
Receiving first place (Best in Show) was Grace Cox for her acrylic painting “Pinky in the Sunshine.” Sitthichai Ritthiphon earned second place for a charcoal drawing titled “Hand-Carved Orchid.” Third place went to Amanda Blakley for her mixed-media entry “Power Hath Descended from Thy Hand.”
Faculty Choice Awards went to Mikaela Myers for “Female Karner Blue Flying” (photography) and Juan Reyes for his book art “Color Journey.” Reshma Ramrattan received the Dean’s Choice Award for “Blues,” a digital painting.
The following students earned honorable mentions from juror Shrago for their works: Lauren Aurigemma, “Obsession,” linoleum block print; Grace Cox, “Campaign Against Teen Relationship Violence,” graphic design; Nicole DiLeo, “Pencils,” sculpture; Francesca Pietri, “Catumpi,” drawing; Reshma Ramrattan, “Blues,” digital painting; and Annarely Rodriguez, “Girls Like Boys,” photography.
Say What?, part of the college’s Exhibition Series, was prepared by members of the Art Sharks student club, who worked closely with division faculty to organize, plan, and execute the exhibition. In addition, Utrecht Art Supplies in Fort Lauderdale sponsored some of this year’s student prizes.
The exhibition is on display through Apr. 27. Gallery 217 hours are:
Tuesdays | 4–6 p.m.
Wednesdays| 12:30–4 p.m.
Thursdays | 1:30–6 p.m.
