Alvin Sherman Library Partners with NSU’s Science Alive! Program to Present Summer Science Series for Children and Tweens

This summer, NSU’s Science Alive!, under the direction of Emily Schmitt, Ph.D., partnered with youth services librarians Kristina Knott and Katharine Labuda to present three weeks of hands-on science programming as part of the Summer S.T.E.M for Tweens and Science Kids summer series. Science Alive! is a program in which NSU science students work within the community to help bring science to life for children of all ages.
Presenting a total of 6 separate programs, Schmitt and her students spent time with children, ages 6-8 and 9-12 from the local community who had signed up for the Summer S.T.E.M. for Tweens or Science Kids series of free, summer programming. Program participants, with the help of the NSU science students, created plant-inspired characters, learned about pH with hands-on experimentation and explored chemistry through demonstrations and real-life chemical reactions.
