Alvin Sherman Library Hosts “I Lobe the Brain”

Patrons at Nova Southeastern University’s Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center celebrated International Brain Awareness Week with the NSU’s Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences’ second annual “I Lobe the Brain” program on Saturday, Mar. 24.

This free event featured hands-on activities, craft projects, games and sheep brains. Children of all ages learned about the brain through an interactive talk with Leanne Boucher, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology at Farquhar. Children also examined plastic models of the brain and had the opportunity to see and touch actual sheep’s brains with NSU student volunteers who explained how the brain works.

The families attending “I Lobe the Brain” enjoyed the informative and entertaining program. Some of their comments included:
“This was awesome as always. Nova and its students did great.”
“Excellent, fun and entertaining for the kids! Great job!!”
“♥ it!”
“Sherman [Library] has great programs for children. We love coming here.”

This event would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of Boucher and the NSU student volunteers: Isabelle Aguilar, Pamela Kay de Figarelli, Chris George, Ahmed Ali, Derrick Schmidt, Alaa Eltahir, Co Nguyen, Shoorena Georges, Naris Blount, Jacqueline Blount, Alicia Deshazer, Faria Fatmi, Alexandra Pintunes, Jaibel Makiyil, Basmatee Manolou, Brittany Santana, and Jessica Rice.
