Jill Bryant, O.D., FAAO, FSLS (’04) has been named Executive Director of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO). Bryant, a 2004 NSU College of Optometry graduate, completed her residency in Primary Eye Care at the WJB Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina. Most recently, she served as the Interim Executive Director of the NBEO from April of 2017 until her appointment as Executive Director in April of 2018.  She was the Chief Operating Officer of the NBEO during August of 2015.

Prior to her involvement with the NBEO, she served as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Contact Lens Service at Duke University Eye Center for almost ten years. Bryant has also served as a Clinical Examiner for the NBEO Part III examination and as a member of the Continuing Professional Development in Optometry (CPDO) examination development Committee and Council. Additionally, she has served as Assistant Chief Clinical Examiner of the North Carolina Board of Optometry and President of the North Carolina Optometric Society during 2016-17, where she now holds the position of Immediate Past President.

The mission of the NBEO is to serve the public and the profession of optometry by developing, administering, scoring, and reporting results of valid examinations that assess competence.  Under its new leadership, they will embark on the process of developing a new organizational strategic plan to help position the organization to best meet future needs.
