College of Osteopathic Medicine Welcomes Albert Einstein College of Medicine Professor Emeritus to speak about Development Disabilities

Nova Southeastern University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM), along with the Institute for Disaster and Emergency Preparedness (IDEP), welcomed Herb Cohen, M.D. professor emeritus at Albert Einstein College of Medicine to campus to speak on Sept. 27.  He presented on the evolution and change in the care of individuals with developmental disabilities.  Cohen currently serves on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Board of Scientific Advisors for its Coordinating Center on Health Promotion and is an internationally recognized expert in developmental disabilities including intellectual impairment, autism, and learning disabilities. He has also chaired a national panel that developed guidelines for inclusionary child care and was the chairman of the American Academy of Pediatrics committee on Children with disabilities. Cohen is particularly interested in the early identification and intervention for developmental delays and disabilities, and encouraged COM faculty and students to recognize the vital role they play in the care for children and families impacted by disabilities.
