Academically Talented Seniors Recognized
University School is proud to congratulate our outstanding students who have been recognized by the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. Nationally, 1.4 million students entered the competition and 50,000 qualified for National Merit Program Recognition based on their scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Eight University School seniors were recognized as Commended Students and will compete for special scholarships provided by corporate and business sponsors. Eleven University School seniors were named Semifinalists and qualify to advance in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be awarded next spring.
To advance in the competition to Finalist standing, Semifinalists must demonstrate an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a school official, submit an essay, and earn SAT scores that confirm their qualifying test performance. The National Merit Scholarship application also calls for students to include information about participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.
We are truly proud of your accomplishments and congratulate you success!
