Abraham S. Fischler College of Education Adjunct Professor Receives Distinguished Senior Fulbright Specialist Award
Frederick Ricci, Ed.D., former Program Professor of Education and presently adjunct professor at the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education, Nova Southeastern University received the distinguished Senior Fulbright Specialist Award. Ricci completed his project as a visiting professor at the University of Potsdam, Brandenburg, Germany. He developed a graduate teacher education curriculum consisting of 10 Modules of Instruction on Multicultural Education and Critical Thinking. Modules focused on instruction for the surging immigration population in Germany and the European Community. The seminars brought together multicultural educators from Syria, Poland, France, and Eastern European countries at the University of Potsdam to pursue research and education toward providing greater knowledge and preparation for the educational challenges of the recent immigrant and refugee community in Germany.
Ricci is one of a distinguished group of United States professionals who has traveled abroad this year through the Fulbright Specialists Program. The program, created in 2000 to complement the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, provides academic opportunities to prominent U.S. professionals to support guest lectures, master classes, and performances at academic institutions around the world. The Fulbright Program, America’s flagship international educational exchange activity, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Over its 60 years of existence, U.S. faculty and professionals have taught, studied or conducted research abroad, and thousands of their counterparts from other countries have engaged in similar activities in the United States. Emerging leaders in their professional fields have received Fulbright awards, including individuals who later became heads of government, Nobel Prize winners, and leaders in education, business, journalism, the arts and other fields. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement.
The Fulbright Scholar Program offers U.S. faculty, administrators and professionals grants to lecture, conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields, or to participate in seminars. The Fulbright Program, the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government, is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and of other countries.
