More than 700 Educators Join Together in Scholarly Pursuits at Fischler School’s 2011 Global Leadership Conference

H. Wells Singleton, Ph.D., dean of Fischler School, poses with doctoral students during the conference.

NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler School of Education recently hosted its 2011 Conference on Global Leadership, Learning and Research, which brought together faculty and more than 700 educational leaders and teachers who are currently pursuing doctoral studies within the school.

The July 19-23 conference was held in Disney’s Contemporary Resort in Orlando, and featured a rigorous track of workshops, presentations and networking with professors and dissertation chairs – all designed to engage the doctoral students in all aspects of their dissertation creation.

“We at the Fischler School pride ourselves in the practical application of research for solving problems associated with many aspects of professional life and education,” said Fischler School Dean H. Wells Singleton. “We hope the conference proved to be engaging and helpful for all of our students, regardless of where they stand within the dissertation process.”

They keynote guest speaker for the conference was Nishikant (Nish) Sonwalker, Sc.D., who spoke about they ways in which synaptic learning can enhance creative thinking.

“We live in a hyper-connected world, making us global educators who need to be able to compete worldwide,” Sonwalker said. “You can always outsource jobs, but not creative thinking.”

Educational partners from organizations such as autism spectrum disorder teaching software creators Teach Town, the E.G. West Institute for Effective Schooling, and the United States Distance Learning Association were also on hand to help the doctoral students explore tools that may relate to or enhance their research.

“The people here are so friendly and I love my dissertation chair, she reminds me so much of a cheerleader because I know she’s there to encourage and support me,” said Jonothan May, Fischler School doctoral student, and assistant director of New Student Orientation in NSU’s Division of Student Affairs. “I definitely recommend the conference, and would attend again.”
