What Will it Take to Get the U.S. & Florida Economies Growing Again
The Economics and Finance Association (EFA), in coordination with the National Association for Business Economics (NABE), is pleased to present Mark Vitner, Senior Economist and Managing Director of Wells Fargo Securities, to discuss “What Will it Take to Get the U.S. & Florida Economies Growing Again.” The presentation will take place on Thursday, November 3 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Knight Auditorium at the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
- 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. refreshments
- 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. presentation
- 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. question and answer session
The economies of the U.S. and Florida are recovering very slowly from the latest recession. Various things make it difficult to quickly restore growth to historic rates of roughly 3%. There are many conflicting technical issues as to the best combination of policies [monetary, fiscal, regulatory, human capital, etc.] to resolve. Uncertainty as to the asset value of toxic CDOs on the books of financial institutions impedes lending. Political disagreement over both the proper role and size of government in general as well as the cause(s) and cure(s) of sluggish economic growth and job creation in particular further complicate the situation.
This seminar will address questions such as:
- How likely is a “double-dip” recession?
- Is economic recovery on hold until the 2012 election?
- When will the economies of the U.S. and Florida recover to their historic growth rates?
- When will job growth more than offset growth of the labor force?
- What’s the outlook for housing and commercial construction?
Who should attend?
Business owners / executives / planners / attorneys / accountants / actuaries / financiers / government decision makers / economists and trade association representatives of major local industries.
This event is free for NSU students, alumni and faculty. For all others there is a $20.00 fee payable to NABE by cash or check only at the door.
