NSU’s New Coral Reef Research Center Mentioned in Article on Federal Stimulus Money Helping Florida Colleges (Sun-Sentinel)

… Nova Southeastern University, as a private university, didn’t receive any of the state’s stimulus dollars. But the Davie school is using a $15 million stimulus-funded Department of Commerce grant to build an 86,000-square-foot coral reef research center, the largest in the U.S.
NSU is adding $22 million of its own money, and the new facility is expected to create 22 new academic jobs and 300 construction jobs. It will also employ 50 graduate students, NSU officials said. The center is expected to open in December 2011.
“This type of research infrastructure is urgently needed to support economic growth and environmental sustainability in our region,” NSU Chancellor Ray Ferrero Jr. said. …
