NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Cultural Events for the South Florida Community

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center (ASL), will be holding an eclectic variety of free programs and events this year in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place from September 15-October 15 each year. These include an art exhibit, tango concert, Cine Argentino film festival, family-friendly musical performances and creative cultural activities in honor of Adolfo and Marisela Cotilla.
“The Alvin Sherman Library is not only an amazing resource of information, research and technology for all of Broward County, it also hosts a wealth of cultural activities throughout the year that educate and enrich our residents. We are pleased to have such diverse events honoring Hispanic Heritage month this year and delight in being able to offer this cultural resource to our community,” said Lydia M. The following programs and events will recognize Hispanic Heritage Month and are free and open to the public:

This film pays homage to Colombian writer, Gabriel García Márquez

Sept. 29 at 2p.m.
This film pays homage to the famous tango singer Carlos Gardel. It touches on exile, politics and Argentine history. It also features singer Rodrigo Aragón. This film is subtitled in English. Directed by Fernando Solanas.

Tango from the Streets of Buenos Aires:
Hispanic Heritage Dance Concert
September 21 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Location: Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center
Experience the drama of the Tango with live music and authentic dances performed by Oscar Caballero, Roxana Garber, and the Miami Tango Times Dance Company. The concert will include live piano, bass, bandoneon, and violin music. Directed by conductor Anibal Berraute, with vocals by Cristina Longo.

Paco Moreno & Friends: Concert for Children
October 12 from 2 to 3:00 p.m.
Location: Alvin Sherman Library, 2nd Floor-Adolfo and Marisela Cotilla Gallery
Paco Moreno & Friends perform music and dances from Spanish-speaking countries throughout the world. After the performance, children will be invited to play authentic Ecuadorian musical instruments which were handmade by Mr. Moreno. Come prepared to dance and sing and celebrate Hispanic Heritage!
