Nova Southeastern University Partners with the Atlanta Public School System
FT. Lauderdale (DAVIE), FLA. – Faculty and researchers from Nova Southeastern University’s (Miami, Florida) Autism Consortium have been retained by the Atlanta Public School System to support the development of additional classrooms for students with autism. The increase in classrooms will raise to thirty, the number of specialized classes for students with autism. Students will range in age from pre-kindergarten through age 22.
Susan Kabot Ed.D., CCC-SLP, Director of Clinical and Therapeutic Programs and Chair of the NSU Interdisciplinary Council for the Study of Autism (ICSA) has led a team of fifty staff members over the past few weeks as they provide individualized training and consultation services in expanding the Atlanta Public School System’s autism programs.
The Autism Consortium, a division of Nova Southeastern University’s Mailman Segal Institute, has been providing training and consulting services to the Atlanta Public Schools for the past 6 years.
The additional classrooms require extensive support, and are funded through economic stimulus dollars.
With the first week of school scheduled to begin within the Atlanta Public School System, MSI staff will provide coaching instruction for their Atlanta colleagues.
