NSU Kicks Off Hispanic Heritage Month With 10th Annual Cine Argentino Festival, Sept. 9
Festival to include U.S. premiere of ‘The Mural,’ three other films
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center, the Consulate General of Argentina in Miami and the Cultural Mexico Institute will host the Cine Argentino Film Festival to be held on NSU’s Davie campus Sept. 9-30 in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. In its tenth year, and fourth year on NSU’s campus, this year’s films are dedicated to the country of Mexico.
The cultural event, free and open to the public, will take place Sundays during the month of September. Actress and journalist Adriana Bianco will open each film screening with a brief commentary. Bianco, the event’s principal organizer, is the winner of the Cóndor de Plata award, Argentina’s most prestigious award for films.
“The Argentine and Mexican cinematographic industries are very important, and this year Cine Argentino is focused on Mexico, said Bianco. “After ten years, this event has become a point of unity for the Hispanic community and has developed into a true cultural exchange.”
The festival will open with the U.S. premiere of the film “EL MURAL,” which depicts the life of Mexican artist, Siqueiros, during the time he was in Buenos Aires. Another festival highlight is a documentary tribute to the Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes.
The film festival opens on Sunday, September 9 and will include remarks from Mexican Consul Juan Miguel Gutierrez Tinoco; the Argentine Consul Miguel Talento; George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., president and CEO of NSU; Maria Luisa Martino, Argentine Cultural Attaché; Alonso Martin, director of Instituto Cultural de Mexico; and Lydia Acosta, vice president for information sand university librarian for NSU.
On opening day, Bianco will offer the “Cine Club Argentino 2012” award to NSU President and CEO George L. Hanbury II, and Pablo Tonini of Notimex (Mexican News Service), in recognition of their dedication to promoting this important cultural event.

TRIBUTE TO MANUEL PUIG
Tribute to the Argentinean writer Mauel Puig, who lived and died in Mexico.
Film based on one of his novels about love and political affairs. No subtitles.

THE LAST BANDONEON
Documentary about tango music and dance and the relationship with Mexican music. Directed by ALEJANDRO SADERMANN. 100 mins. Subtitles in English.
