Abraham Lincoln Exhibit at Alvin Sherman Library Explores the Man Behind the Legend, Runs Oct. 2-25
FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – A new FREE exhibit, “Abraham Lincoln: A Man of His Time, A Man for All Times,” at Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center will explore the man behind the legend.
The free exhibit opens to the public on Friday, Oct. 2 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 26. “Abraham Lincoln: A Man of His Time, A Man for All Times” is a national traveling exhibition developed by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. It is also a part of the library’s year-long celebration marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. Related events include:
- Author Brian Dirck presents “Abraham Lincoln: the Lawyer in the White House”
Saturday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. in the Library’s Second Floor Gallery
Dirck, author of Lincoln the Lawyer, will offer a broad overview of Lincoln’s 25-year career at the Illinois bar, and highlight the ways this experience influenced Lincoln’s presidency. - Performer Matthew Sabatella presents “Music in the Life of Abraham Lincoln”
Sunday, Oct. 18 from 2-3 p.m. in the Library’s Second Floor Gallery
Sabatella performs songs from the life of the 16th president of the United States on guitar, banjo, and dulcimer.
The exhibit runs Friday Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 25, during the following hours:
- Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Funding for the exhibit was made possible through a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. In conjunction with the exhibit, there will be additional Lincoln material on display from the private collection of Sheldon C. and Rosalind Kurland.
