Violence Knows No Boundaries – Nova Southeastern University and the Broward Sheriff’s Office Raise Awareness on Violence
FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Violence in our society has reached crisis proportions. Nationally recognized experts in psychology, suicide prevention, law enforcement, counseling and other areas will be among the speakers at a conference titled “Violence Knows No Boundaries” at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) on Nov. 4-5.
The two-day conference will be held on NSU’s main campus. Sessions both days are from 8:30 a.m – 4:00 p.m., and will be held in the Commons Residence Hall – conference rooms 123 A & B at 3625 College Ave. in Davie.
A joint effort of the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Nova Southeastern University, the conference offers scholarly discussions and trainings focused on the dramatic rise of violence in our communities. Industry experts from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation division the U.S. Marshalls Service, the Broward County Sheriff Office and NSU will offer their expertise, research findings and training in conflict analysis, crisis management and violence prevention and resolution.

- Welcome: Frank DePiano, Ph.D., NSU provost and vice president of Academic Affairs
- Key Note Speaker: Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti, chief law enforcement officer of Broward County
- Workplace Violence: Judy Couwels, M.A., LMFT, Employee Assistance Program manager, Broward Sheriff’s Office; Stephan J. Romano, M.A., consultant and senior advisor, Center for Personal Protection and Safety
- School Violence: Scott Poland, Ed.D., coordinator of NSU’s Suicide and Violence Prevention Office and associate professor at NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies; Lt. Anthony DeMarco executive officer -Youth Intervention and Enforcement Division, Broward Sheriff’s Office
