University School Opens New Art Institute, Offers Classes in Performing & Visual Arts to All Ages
Classes are open to the public and start on Sept. 8, with new offerings added all the time
FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Budding performing and visual artists now have a new venue to help them hone their creative skills: the University School Art Institute.
The University School Art Institute, based on the campus of Nova Southeastern University (NSU), will offer classes in the performing and visual arts to students of all ages – from children to seniors and everyone in between. The first session will begin the week of Sept. 8.
Classes are open to the public, and include acting, dance, theatre arts, play writing, performance poetry, and more. Classes take place after school, on weekday evenings, Saturday mornings, during vacation breaks, and over the summer.
Current featured offerings include, but are not limited to:
- Beginning Violin for all ages
- Individual Piano Lessons for ages 5 and older
- Class Voice & Applied Voice for ages 14 and older
- Playwriting Workshop I for ages 14 and older
- Composition of Performance Poetry I for ages 14 and older
- Improvisational Acting for ages 12-17, and a second session for ages 18 and older
- Monologue Preparation for ages 12 and older
- Broadway Jazz for ages 12 and older
- Dance Aerobics for ages 12 and older
There will be five, eight week sessions offered in 2009-2010. Space is limited.
Fees vary based on classes selected. Arts aficionados are also encouraged to check back frequently to see new classes and events that will be added continuously.
University School Art Institute classes will be taught in the school’s new 70,800 square-foot Epstein Center for the Arts, which features:
- Two levels of academic space for the University School Middle and Upper Schools as well as the University School Art Institute.
- An auditorium with seating for 750, and a state-of-the-art theater with orchestra pit.
- Specialized arts areas include a scene shop and costume design studio, instrument classrooms with sound-proof practice rooms, a music theory/computer classroom, choral and dance studios, a forensics suite, wet and dry visual art studios, and a TV studio.
