Tonight’s State of the Union Address May Raise Questions about the Economy
NSU Home to Subject Matter Expert in Business and Economics
FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – President Obama is set to deliver the State of the Union address this evening followed by the Republican response. With the economy still being one of the most important topics for the American people, he may touch upon economic issues and trends for the coming year.
Nova Southeastern University is home to a nationally renowned expert who can provide answers and insight on the impact that tax rates can have on the economy and on income inequality in the U.S.
Albert Williams, Ph.D., is an associate professor of finance and economics at Nova Southeastern University’s H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
Williams’ experiences stem from a varied career in academia, economics, and finance in the Caribbean and the U.S. His deep understanding of business and public service grew through positions as a project officer in the Development Finance Corporation in Belize and an agricultural economist for the government of Belize. Williams spent five years as the CEO of the Belize Marketing Board. He expanded his knowledge in business in the United States by becoming a commodity analyst at Restaurant Services, Inc., the purchasing arm of Burger King Corporation.
Williams has taught courses in personal finance, corporate finance, macroeconomics, microeconomics, and managerial economics. He has provided CBS and NBC in Miami with his expertise on current economic and finance issues and, on several occasions, was featured on the PBS television segment Current Issues. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from the University of Calgary in Canada, a master’s degree in agricultural economics and a doctorate degree in agricultural and applied economics both from the University of Georgia. His research is focused on behavioral finance, personal finance, development economics (including poverty), investments, management, and ethnicity. His diverse career (public and private sector), strong academic background, and his down-to-earth approach have resulted in his position as a sought-after lecturer on the topics of finance (including personal finance), and economics for students, public officers, and private sector groups in Belize, the Bahamas and Florida.
