Third Annual EveryBODY Walk Event to Raise Awareness & Promote Education on Eating Disorders

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla.– January 28, 2014 –

According to the latest statistics, approximately 24 million Americans, of all ages, suffer from an eating disorder. In addition, around 25% of college aged woman suffer from an eating disorder and, to dispel old-standing stereotypes, 10-15% of those with an eating disorder are men.

As a way to bring attention to this issue and help raise funds to support those in need, the Third Annual EveryBODY Walk event is fast approaching. The event is a partnership between Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Eating Disorders Awareness Association, The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness, the Miami Eating Disorders Coalition, National Alliance on Mental Illness and the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals – South Florida.

The walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, February 1st at The Pond Apple Pavilion, South County Regional Park, 11200 Park Access Rd., Boca Raton.

“Please join us on February 1st to walk with over 500 people to help empower individuals, to be stronger than a number on a scale, a pant size, or a standard dictated by society,” said Leah DiNardo, a student and the chair of NSU’s Eating Disorders Awareness Association. “Proceeds from the walk will help provide treatment to people who otherwise could not afford treatment, so we really need a strong turn out again this year.”
