The Family Nurse Practitioner Program Comes to NSU Tampa
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tampa, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is responding to the increasing demand for primary health care providers. The university is adding a Family Nurse Practitioner program with a Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) degree on NSU’s Tampa Campus. The program is set to begin this fall.
This new option for nurses looking to advance their careers comes at a time when the demand for advanced practice nurses (APN) is expected to rise by 31 percent through 2024. The median salary of an APN is $102,650, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The FNP program is typically eight semesters and will be delivered in a hybrid format, with the first three semesters of online-only courses followed by a combination of online and in-classroom study. The program is currently available at NSU’s Palm Beach campus.
“This format has proven to be highly beneficial and efficient for nurses who continue to work while advancing their education,” said Andra Hanlon, Ph.D., ARNP, CPNP, associate dean of graduate programs, NSU College of Nursing. “All of NSU’s advanced practice in nursing programs, including the FNP, represent the future of nursing care and are a foundation for those who wish to pursue a doctoral degree.”
“With the skills and evidence-based perspective our students gain through this program, a successful M.S.N./F.N.P graduate emerges as a knowledgeable and competent health care provider who is able to lead and direct in the community and beyond,” added Dr. Hanlon.
FNP students integrate practice and theory, explore policy, and the advanced nursing role, which trains future FNPs to perform many of the tasks previously reserved for physicians. They also study advanced pharmacology and primary care for women and pediatrics, with an emphasis on wellness and holistic care.
NSU students are well-prepared for national board certification by nationally certified and practicing nurse practitioner faculty members and through directly working with patients under experienced and specialized health care providers. Assigned NSU faculty members support and advise students individually throughout their academic careers.
