Teens Create FREE Tech-Junk Art & Go Clubbing at NSU’s Library in March, Lead Poetry Slam in April

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Broward County teens have found a new club hot spot: Nova Southeastern University’s Alvin Sherman Library (ASL).

That’s right, we said library! With FREE offerings – ranging from manga, to video games, to art, to specific book genres – the teen clubs at the ASL have something for everyone. Come meet a new friend, or just hang out and enjoy.

From March 6 to 11, teens can also use obsolete technology like old cell phones, gaming systems and computer components to create a Tech-Junk Art masterpiece and be eligible to win prizes. The tech-art mashup sessions take place each night from 5 to 6 p.m.

Then, check out a FREE club as well. Upcoming meetings include:

  • · Teen Manga Club Tuesday, March 22 from 5:30-6 p.m. (Ages 15-18)
Join fellow Otaku (fans of manga) and discuss your favorite shōnen and shōjo! Cos-play is optional and costumes must follow the library’s dress code.

  • Teen Video Game Club Tuesday, March 22 from 6-6:30 p.m. (Ages 13-18)

This month’s book is Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. In the final months of WWII, American soldier, Captain Yossarian, is caught in a dilemma. He wants to request to be grounded from any more bomber missions, but by making this request, he’ll be considered fit for another mission. With no other options, he’ll now do whatever it takes to escape this Catch-22 and stay alive.

  • Fantasy Fanatics’ Teen Book Club Thursday, March 24 from 5:30-6 p.m. (Ages 15-18)
This month’s book is Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. Katniss has endured The Hunger Games, twice. Now, she must face President Snow’s wrath for unknowingly sparking a nation-wide rebellion against The Capitol. Desperate for change, the rebels have turned to her as their symbol of hope. But does Katniss have the strength or desire to become their Mockingjay?

  • Romance Readers’ Teen Book Club Friday, March 25 from 5:30-6 p.m. (Ages 15-18)
