Suicide Awareness Seminar Given by Experts
Free seminar to be held at NSU’s Miami Student Educational Center on Saturday, October 15th
MIAMI, Fla. — Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Miami Student Educational Center is hosting a suicide awareness seminar on Saturday, October 15th. Presenters will discuss various aspects of suicide and attendees will receive a certificate of participation.
Topics to be addressed include:
- Bullying and suicide prevention
- Techniques on identifying at-risk individuals
- The psychological impact suicide has on family, friends, and the community
- Coping with the aftermath of suicide
- Review of counseling options
- NSU’s psychological services available to the community
Speakers are Jackie Rosen, executive director, CEO of Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention, Inc. and Ayala Winer, M.S., LMHC, LMFT, director of business development for the Division of Applied Interdisciplinary Studies at NSU.
Suicide can be traced to unrecognized, untreated, or poorly treated mental illness. It can happen to people of any gender, any race or ethnicity and any economic status. Awareness and knowledge of warning signs and helping someone access the appropriate resources are crucial in the attempt to prevent suicide and violence.
The free seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at NSU’s Miami Student Educational Center located at 8585 SW 124th Avenue, Miami, FL 33183. A continental breakfast will be provided. For additional information or to RSVP by Monday, October 10th, call 305.275.2601 or email nsu-miami@nova.edu.
