FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Organizers of the upcoming Rock Out Loud Concert on Nova Southeastern University’s (Nova) campus are not bashful about their ambitious goal of ending hate crimes, and they aim to raise funds at the April 6 benefit concert to advance their goal. The event is free and open to the public; food will be served in exchange for donations for the cause.

Rock Out Loud is a fundraiser committed to seeing that hate crimes end. The goal is to educate the public in order to change negative attitudes.

Local indie band Es Oh will headline the event, which will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the south lawn behind Nova’s Shepard Broad Law Center.

“We can all help reduce the number of hate crimes by speaking out against these heinous acts and educating people in our sphere of influence,” said Martavis T. Clarke, J.D. Candidate, 2012, vice-president & treasurer of the Shepard Broad Law Center’s LAMBDA United chapter. “We hope that this venue will provide an opportunity to shed more light on this issue, bring our community closer together and unite against hate crimes.

“Even one death as a result of hate crimes is too many,” added Clarke.

In addition to the musical performance, John Adornato, Oakland Park City Commissioner, will speak about his experiences with hate crimes and the effects they have on individuals and the community at large. Judge Lisa Porter, Broward County 17th Judicial Circuit, will also be in attendance.

“There is no more important job for us as city officials and human beings than protecting our children and ending violence,” said Oakland Park City Commissioner John Adornato. “Each person we reach with our message of tolerance – not hate – can multiply and reach many more people. We hope to eventually live in a society free of hate crimes.”

LAMBDA United is committed to educating the public on hate crimes with the hope of ending the abuse. If rumors can be dispelled and the ignorance eradicated the discrimination can cease to exist. The proceeds from the event will be given to the national organization, Fight Out Loud.

Es Oh is a South Florida-based band performing indie experimental music. Indie experimental is described as music based on rock, which experiments with the basic elements of the genre or which pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique.
