Pi (Pie?) Day Comes to Nova Southeastern University

Come for the Dessert, Stay for the Mathematics

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Looking For a Fun, Quirky Story – NSU Has You Covered!

Pi-symbol1FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – It’s that time of year again – the time when pizza + dessert = MATH!

It’s March 14, otherwise referred to as Pi Day. Pi is more commonly referred to as 3.14 – as in March 14 (3/14.)

To mark the annual occasion, Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography will be holding a Pi Day celebration. The event is scheduled for noon-1 p.m. Tues., March 14th in NSU’s Don Taft University Center, 3301 College Ave., Fort Lauderdale.

The event will feature a debate between NSU students about Pi (π 3.14) and Euler’s Number (e). Many know that Pi is a mathematical constant, which is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. For those who aren’t mathematicians, Euler’s Number is another “famous” irrational number that is a mathematical constant that is the base of the natural logarithm: the unique number whose natural logarithm is equal to one.

Yeah, we get it – that’s a bit complicated, which is why NSU is hosting Pi Day! The event is free and open to the public – you can enjoy a slice of pizza pie or a dessert of apple pie and light refreshments while learning about math!
