NSU’s Terry Mularkey Recertified as a Certified Fund Raising Executive

FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Executive Director of Development Terry J. Mularkey has been recertified as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). He joins more than 5,500 professionals around the world who hold the CFRE designation.

Individuals granted the CFRE credential have met a series of standards set by CFRE International which include tenure in the profession, education, demonstrated fundraising achievement and a commitment to service to not-for-profit organizations. They have also passed a rigorous written examination testing the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of a fundraising executive, and have agreed to uphold Accountability Standards and the Donor Bill of Rights.

CFRE recipients are awarded certification for a three-year period. In order to maintain certification status certificants must demonstrate on-going fundraising employment and fundraising results, and continue with their professional education. Employers and donors who work with CFRE’s know they are getting a professional who is committed to the best outcomes for their organization and has the requisite knowledge and skills.

Mularkey possesses a unique combination of private industry, higher education, health and military experience. He has been at NSU since September 2014, after having served as senior director of business development for Sodexo, a food services and facilities management company. He has held several leadership positions during his tenure at Halifax Health Hospice, including as chief development officer. In the education industry, he served as president for Father Lopez High School in Daytona Beach; as vice president and chief development officer for The Citadel Foundation in Charleston, S.C; and as executive director for alumni relations at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Prior to starting his fundraising career, Mularkey served as a U.S. Army Officer on active duty for 21 years until retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served and led at every level in the military, including the Joint Staff in the Pentagon.

Mularkey is a graduate of Mercer University, with a B.A. in health and physical education. He holds a graduate degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and The Armed Forces Staff College. He holds the FAA Commercial, multi-engine, instrument pilot ratings and is a certified fund raising executive (CFRE).

As Executive Director of Development, Mularkey is integral to the largest fundraising effort in the history of NSU and Broward County. Realizing Potential – The Campaign for Nova Southeastern University seeks to raise $250 million through philanthropy by 2020. As of May 31, 2017, the university has successfully raised $163 million, or 65% of its philanthropic goal.
