NSU’s Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship to Host Distinguished Lecture Series
Two Global Business Leaders to Speak on Campus

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Two business leaders recognized globally for their entrepreneurial success, Ramola Motwani, chairwoman and chief executive officer, Merrimac Ventures, and Joseph E. Farrell, Jr., president and chief executive officer, RESOLVE Marine Group, Inc., have been scheduled to speak as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series, offered annually by the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Motwani and Farrell were recognized this past spring as 2015 Entrepreneur Hall of Fame honorees.
The events will take place on Thursday, October 22, and Thursday, November 5, in the college’s Huizenga Sales Institute in the Carl DeSantis Building at 10:30 a.m.
The schedule and background on the entrepreneurs is as follows:
· October 22 – Ramola Motwani will share her story of influence in the development and redevelopment of Ft. Lauderdale beach. She will discuss her challenges as an entrepreneur and as working mother of two young boys as well as her vision of family and business.
Motwani leads Merrimac Ventures, a family business that was started 30 years ago by her late husband, Ramesh Motwani, which is a real estate management, investment and development company with interests throughout the United States and in India. Merrimac Ventures has owned several hotels on Ft. Lauderdale beach since 1986 and is currently a partner in the Four Seasons hotel there as well as the Gale Boutique Hotel and Residences project. Motwani manages the company with her two sons, Dev and Nitin.
In her leadership role, Motwani serves on many boards, including the Broward Workshop and the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. She was recently inducted into Travelhost magazine’s Hospitality Hall of Fame and was recognized by the South Florida Business Journal as one of Broward County’s “Ultimate CEOs.”
· November 5 –Joseph E. Farrell Jr. will speak about his journey from growing up in Boston and working as an outboard mechanic to building one of the most recognized salvage companies in the world, RESOLVE Marine Group.
Farrell, who has more than 45 years of experience in the maritime industry, leads a global marine services provider that specializes in vessel emergency response, ship rescue, salvage, maritime training, naval architecture and marine engineering. The company has extensive fleets strategically positioned with operations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Gibraltar, China, Ireland, India and New Zealand.
After serving in the U.S. Navy diving school, Farrell then served as a U.S. Coast Guard explosives adviser in Vietnam. He spent four years recovering torpedoes after jumping from helicopters wearing scuba gear. The Seafarers’ House recently honored Farrell with its 2015 Golden Compass Award.
