NSU’s Fischler School of Education to Host Third Annual International School Choice Research Conference

Third annual International School Choice and Reform Academic Conference

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – January 15, 2014 –

Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Abraham S. Fischler School of Education will host its third annual International School Choice and Reform Academic Conference Jan. 17 -20. The goal of the conference is to bring together American and internationally renowned greatest thinkers in higher education / k-12 to explore future collaborative research  and current education  trends.

A key focus of the conference will be research from international school choice programs.  This includes independent schools, charter and magnet schools, religious-based schools, virtual schools and governmental funding/voucher programs.

The conference will be led by co-chairs Patrick Wolf Ph.D., of the University of Arkansas and Robert Fox Ph.D., of the University of Hawaii.  International elements of research are led by Conference Committee Chair, Charles Glenn Ph.D.  Each year there are more than 100 academics, policy experts and policy practitioners who gather to share research, opinions and evidence regarding school choice and education reform from around the globe with many from countries such as Brazil, Chile, Czech Republic, Estonia, India, Israel, Lithuania, Malta, Romania, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The conference’s key issue speakers include Rod Paige, former U.S. Secretary of Education (2001 – 2005;) Alejandra Mizala, Professor of University of Chile with the Centro de Economia (Center for Applied Economics); and John Witte Ph.D., founding Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Services at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan.

A research prize of $5,000 will be awarded to the conference’s premier paper publication, following nominations and consideration by conference planning committee members.  The prize award has been made possible through the generosity of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute.

Conference sponsors include The Walton Family Foundation, The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice, the William E. Simon Foundation, the Alliance for School Choice and The Thomas B. Fordham Institute.

This conference is presented by The Journal of School Choice and the National Institute for Educational Options at NSU’s Fischler School of Education.
