NSU’s Co-Director of the Center for the Study and Prevention of Substance Abuse Discusses the Use and Testing of Synthetic Drugs

Jim Hall, co-director of NSU’s Center for the Study and Prevention of Substance Abuse at the Institute For The Study of Human Services, Health and Justice, interviewed with WPTV News Channel 5, an NBC affiliate, on the long term impact of, and danger in using designer drugs. The article, which addresses the increase in compounds used to make designer drugs, also discusses how difficult accurate drug testing may be. Hall explained, “These are the guinea pig drugs of 2012. The people using these drugs are risking their lives, their minds and their kidneys. Some of these people have had to be put on dialysis for the rest of their lives.”

Hall added that although everyone may not get tested, high risk candidates should be. “Probation officers may not test everyone, but they will target high-risk candidates. It’s for their own good.”
