NSU Becomes a Tobacco and Smoke-Free Campus
FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Effective July 1, Nova Southeastern University (NSU) will join nearly 400 U.S. colleges and universities to become a tobacco- and smoke-free campus.
NSU faculty, staff and students who want to quit smoking continue to be encouraged to take advantage of the university’s multiple smoking cessation programs and resources which are available year-round.
Resources include motivational counseling through NSU’s Guided Self-Change Clinic; counseling, support and readiness assessments by NSU pharmacists; as well as prescription and over-the-counter nicotine replacement therapies. The university offers free tobacco cessation programs and resources, including non-prescription Nicotine Replacement Therapy (e.g., patch, gum, lozenges).
“A healthy campus environment is of paramount importance to our university. We believe the adoption of this policy is the right decision and demonstrates our commitment to the health of the NSU community,” said Tom Vitucci, NSU’s director of campus recreation and committee member on this initiative.
NSU adopted the new policy to demonstrate its concern for the health of the campus community – for both smokers and non-smokers. For additional information visit www.nova.edu/tobacco-free.
