NSU to Present Panel Discussion on Race Relations in America – Free to the Public

“Race Issues in America 11: The Ferguson Police Shooting & Beyond” - Hosted by SGA at NSU's Graduate School of Humanities & Social Sciences

 

Fort Lauderdale-Davie, Fla. – The Student Government Association (SGA) at NSU’s Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) is hosting a Special Edition of  its Diversity Dialogues, titled “Race Issues in America 11: The Ferguson Police Shooting and Beyond.” The Ferguson, MO incident and others brought a renewed spotlight on race relations in America. To that end, and as part of Black History Month events at NSU, the SGA in NSU’s SHSS is bringing together faculty experts and members of the community for a panel discussion on the topic.

The event is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8 at   NSU’s Performance Theater in the Don Taft University Center, 3301 College Ave., Davie (Main Campus.) The event is free and open to the South Florida community.

The panel moderator will be Debra Nixon, Ph.D., faculty in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in SHSS. Panelists scheduled include Cheryl Duckworth, Ph.D., faculty in SHSS’s  Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR); Cynthia Henry Duval, Esq., from NSU’s Shepard Broad Law Center; and Tony Gaskew, Ph.D., associate professor and director of the Criminal Justice Program at the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford.  Gaskew is a 2014 NSU Distinguished Alumni Award recipient and is a DCAR doctoral graduate.
