NSU to Host Department of Homeland Security Official For Cybersecurity Presentation – Free Event Open to the Public

 

Computer StudentsFORT LAUDERDALE (Davie), Fla. – As part of its month-long observance of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM.) Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences (GSCIS) is welcoming officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for a presentation on cybersecurity.

On Wednesday, October 22 at 6 p.m., NSU’s GSCIS will host the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s special presentation on “Cybersecurity: A Shared Responsibility.” The presentation will feature Carlos Kizzee, Deputy Director of the U.S. DHS Stakeholder Engagement and Cyber Infrastructure Resilience Division. This presentation will take place in NSU’s Don Taft University Center, Second Floor, 3301 College Ave., Fort Lauderdale (main campus.)

NSU has conducted several events as part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, which has been observed annually each October since its inception. Now in its 11th year, the awareness program was created to engage and educate the public and private sector about cyber security while increasing the resiliency of the American public in the event of a cyber-incident.

Other events conducted at NSU that were related to National Cyber Security Awareness Month include:

  • (September 29) GSCIS hosts the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI Cyber Division, James Burrell for a special presentation on “Cyber Security Threats and Trends”
  • (October 14) Cyber Security Day GSCIS hosted over 160 high school students from Miami Dade County Public Schools to teach them about cyber security safety featuring presentations by NSU Professor Yair Levy, Ph.D., FBI Special Agent Griffiths, Special Agent Raphy Rivas of InfraGard Miami, Michael Scheidell, Chief Information Security Officer of Security Privateers and NSU doctoral candidate, Melissa Carlton.
  • (October 15) Second Annual Healthcare Cyber Security Summit– Special presentations by top healthcare security professionals from NSU’s Chief Information Security Officer, HIPAA HI-TECH Solutions Founder and CEO, Sanjay Deo and Attorney Tatiana Melnik
