NSU Set To Host Sunshine State Conference Basketball Championships

Ft. Lauderdale (Davie), FL – Nova Southeastern University (NSU) will host the semifinals and championship games of the 2008-2009 Sunshine State Conference (SSC) men’s and women’s basketball tournament. The games are scheduled for March 7-8, 2009 and will be held in NSU’s 4500 plus seat University Center Arena in Davie, FL.

The women’s basketball semifinals will take place first on March 7 followed later in the evening by the men’s tournaments. Winners of Saturday’s semifinal games will advance to Sunday’s championships.

The SSC colleges and universities are members of the NCAA Division II. The winners of Sunday’s championship games will receive an automatic bid to compete in the NCAA Division II Championship games. Location, dates and times of those games will be announced later in the year.

Nine teams compete in the SSC’s men’s and women’s basketball division. The conference championship games rotate each year between those teams. Competing colleges and universities are: NSU (Ft. Lauderdale-Davie), Eckerd College (St. Petersburg), Florida Tech (Melbourne), Florida Southern College (Lakeland), Lynn University (Boca Raton), Rollins College (Winter Park), Saint Leo University (Saint Leo), the University of Tampa (Tampa), and Barry University (Miami Shores).
