NSU Professor Featured Nationally in Florida Recount Article

Retired Judge Robert Rosenberg was faced with Florida’s infamous recount between George W. Bush and Al Gore. Since 2000, Florida implemented a variety of changes following the recount which include deadlines for steps in the recount process and a state law that requires a machine recount in races where the margin is less than 0.5 percentage points.

Charles Zelden, Ph.D., a professor of history and political science in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, was featured nationally in more than over 100 news outlets discussing the state wide recount which involves the Senate race between Republican Governor Rick Scott and Democratic Senator Bill Nelson, the governor’s race between Republican Ron DeSantis and Democrat Andrew Gillum and the agriculture commissioner’s race between Republican Matt Caldwell and Democrat Nikki Fried.

Dr. Zelden said that the first thing to understand is that there is a playbook for recounts and one of the key elements is you involve the courts in, to either stop the voting or to open up the voting as much as possible.
