NSU Names Provost and EVP to Lead University’s Academic Affairs

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University (NSU) President and CEO George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., announced the appointment of Ralph V. Rogers, Jr., Ph.D. to the position of provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. Rogers’ appointment is effective September 16, 2013.

“Dr. Rogers is an accomplished higher education administrator and engineer who has held wide-ranging, senior level administrative and faculty positions during his career in higher and post-secondary education,” said Hanbury. “We are looking forward to the addition of his talents to our team as we progress toward our Vision 2020, particularly as it relates to the academic goals of the university.”

Since 2008, Rogers has served as the vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost at Purdue University Calumet. Previously, he held administrative positions as founding dean and professor in the College of Technology and Computer Science at East Carolina University and chair and professor in the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering at Old Dominion University. He previously held faculty positions at the University of Central Florida and Ohio University. Rogers has an extensive background in research activities; related partnerships, grants and contracts; publications; presentations and several teaching excellence awards.

Rogers has led the universities he has served to significant achievement in the development and implementation of innovative undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including Ph.D. programs, to meet the emerging opportunities and needs of the national economy and regional communities. Under his leadership, Purdue University Calumet received a record $14 million in external grant and contract funding while pursuing a student-centered vision of excellence in learning, scholarship, and student success. At Purdue University Calumet, Rogers oversaw an academic enterprise comprised of 10,000 students and 590 full- and part-time faculty members.

While at East Carolina University, Rogers organized and implemented the strategic direction for the College of Technology and Computer Science leading its four academic departments as its first dean. During his tenure, he guided the three-year student enrollment growth in the college from 700 to 2,000. Additionally, Rogers designed, proposed and implemented a general engineering program; directed an extensive graduate and undergraduate distance learning program; and collaborated with university and area leaders to advance regional economic development.

Rogers earned baccalaureate (electrical engineering) and master’s degrees (industrial and systems engineering) at Ohio University and a Ph.D. in systems engineering from the University of Virginia.
