NSU Names Brandon L. Hensler, M.S., APR as Executive Director for University Relations

Brandon Hensler 1FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. Nova Southeastern University (NSU) President and CEO Dr. George Hanbury announced that Brandon L. Hensler, M.S., APR, has been appointed to the position of Executive Director, University Relations. Hensler previously served as the interim executive director.

Hensler joined NSU in January 2011 in the Office of Public Affairs where he worked with university deans and leaders to help tell NSU’s story via local, state, national and international media. He was quickly promoted to Director of University Relations and eventually named the Interim Executive Director of University Relations, a position he held for 18 months.

“I believe deeply in NSU’s mission and vision and I am passionate about helping tell our university’s inspiring story,” Hensler said. “We have top-notch students, faculty and staff, and for more than 50 years NSU has been a leader in education locally, nationally and globally. Being a part of NSU is something very special.”

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Hensler holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies/Latin American Studies from Miami University (Ohio) and a Master of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from NSU.

Before joining NSU, Hensler, who is bilingual and fluent in Spanish, was the Director of Communications for the ACLU of Florida, a statewide, non-profit organization. In that role, he oversaw the organization’s media and public relations, advertising strategies and its web/social media platforms. In addition, he was responsible for media relations training, crisis communication, community relations, internal communications, and served on several national committees.

Hensler currently serves on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of South Florida. He was previously appointed to the Broward County Human Rights Board in 2012 and was a founding member of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Association’s Sun Trolley Foundation Board. He is also a past-president of the Public Relations Society of America’s Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter, has served on the Board of Trustees of the Miami University LGBT Alumni Association and is a graduate of Leadership Broward. Hensler is accredited in Public Relations by the Universal Accreditation Board and is certified as a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt (Process Improvement).
