NSU Library Hosts World Premiere of “Alice in Dali-land” Surrealist Shadow-Puppet Performance
Intense imagery and masterful storytelling create unique way to experience the classic story
FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has been re-imagined many times, but never quite like the surrealist shadow puppet story that is “Alice in Dali-Land: A Cano / Hammond Puppetry World Premiere.”
Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center will be hosting the special, FREE one-time performance on Saturday, April 28 from 2 to 3 p.m. as a part of its ongoing Ferro Fine Arts Series.
The show was designed by master puppeteers Pablo Cano and Jim Hammond. Cano is a renowned South Florida found-object artist and creator of whimsical sculptures and marionettes, and Hammond is a puppet designer, producer, artistic director (credits include The Lion King, and Snow White).
Together, the pair will expand their audience’s imaginations with this modern shadow puppetry show interpretation of Alice. Then, join them after the performance for a Q&A session.
Presented by the Charles P. Ferro Foundation, “Alice in Dali-Land: A Cano / Hammond Puppetry World Premiere” is FREE and open to the public and will be held in the Alvin Sherman Library’s Second Floor Gallery on NSU’s main campus, at 3301 College Ave. in Davie. The performance is appropriate for ages 6 and up.
